The second largest island in the Philippines, less than 500 miles north of the equator. Believed by many to be the land of Ophir referenced in the Bible (1 Chronicles 29:1-4 ) in the times of King Solomon, it has gold mining with reserves estimated to be in the trillions. Much of it is to be found in Diwalwal, a mining area close to the city of Surigao in Northern Mindanao.
